Drink Driving and DUI
Driving under the influence of alcohol is a punishable offence in most countries, but did you know that you can pick up a charge if you are in the car and it is stationary?
There are cases, particularly in America where people have received fines, and this happens regularly in the UK too.
In Florida, a man had an argument with his housemate over his taste in music, so he went to listen to his songs in the car. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI when police officers knocked on the window, and he failed a breath test.
A lot of people will go out for a night and realise they are too inebriated to operate a vehicle, so decide to sleep it off in their car instead. Unfortunately, if you have the car keys on you and a police officer questions you and tests your breath, you can be charged for drunk driving.
If this has happened to you and you want to sleep in your car then the best thing to do is make sure the keys are as far away as possible. If you can, put the keys into your glove compartment or under the passenger tyre, so that you are not tempted to drive when there is still alcohol in your blood. This way the police may be more lenient.
If you are driving in the UK then make sure that you have Comprehensive Car Insurance to cover you in the case of an accident.
